SEDS SELF-ERECTING MAST

The patent pending SEDS, Self-Elevating Drilling System, is a self-erecting Box on Box style substructure with a Bootstrap style vertically erecting mast that is assembled 12 ft. from grade. The mast is vertically extended with the Drawworks and the Substructure is raised with hydraulic cylinders. The SEDS rig is available from Kort Industries.

The KI-3000 SEDS mast is a freestanding 152’ clear height Bootstrap style with 1,500,000 lb. static hook load strung on 12 lines and a 25 ft leg spread. The mast base section is designed to be rigged up on the drill floor at 12 ft from grade.

The five (5) piece mast consists of a base section, a crown/upper section and three (3) intermediate sections which can be assembled and raised without crane assistance. The bottom and crown sections are pinned to floor pedestals at “ground level” and erected hydraulically. Subsequent sections are added and scoped with the traveling block. Each base section is complete with 42 inch handrails and 6 inch toe plates that are designed to facilitate

inspection of the latching system during the mast extension and vertical erection procedure. The KI-3000 SEDS crown assembly consists of a seven (7) sheave main cluster with seven (7) 60” diameter sheaves grooved for 1-5/8” wireline, one (1) 72” fastline sheave assembly with sheave grooved 1-5/8” sheave, 42 inch high handrails and bumper blocks. The crown assembly frame will have pad-eyes for a block suspension line complete with a certified wire rope and shackle assembly.

The racking board will have a capacity of 25,000 ft of 5-1/2” drill pipe including eight (8) stands of 10 inch and eight (8) stands of 8 inch drill collars. The platform is complete with a folding diving board, access catwalk, pullback winch and fold up floor slab on driller’s KI. The racking board is adjustable from 85 ft to 92 ft above the drill floor and includes 84 inch high hand rails and an escape platform

SELF ERECTING STYLE SUBSTRUCTURE

The SEDS substructure is a self- erecting Box on Box style substructure that is extended up and retracted down with eight (8) hydraulic rams. The KI-3000 SEDS substructure has a drill floor and sub base nominal dimension of 45 ft x 45 ft. With a mast shoe spread of 25 ft. The substructure is designed to a rated capacity of 1,500,000 lb. casing and 1,000,000 lb. setback simultaneously. The drill floor rotary area and the setback area are supplied complete with a Zero Discharge recovery system.

The SEDS System is designed to install the Mast, Drill floor sections, the Drawworks, setback and Rotary section on the assembled drill floor while the substructure is in the lowest position, 12 ft from grade.

Once the Drill Floor sections are in place and secured, EIGHT (8) hydraulic rams will extend the floor and strong-backs vertically to allow another “box-section” to be inserted. This process is repeated twice to reach the required floor height and clearance.

The 36 ft drill floor with 32 ft clear height is supplied complete with 42” hinged handrails complete with 6” toe plate and a sliding gate at the V-Door. The independent Rotary system is designed into the center drill floor section and the Drill Floor is checker plated with 3/8″ plate around rotary table and drill floor. The Setback area is equipped with two (2) layers of 3” hard wood.

The Setback area is equipped with two (2) layers of 3” hard wood.

The drill floor sections are mounted and pinned on top of two (2) perpendicular Strong-back beam boxes and are comprised of a setback section, a rotary section and a drawworks section, each 15 ft wKI x 45 ft long.

The two (2) Strong-back sections are designed to transport on the base box sections and are 10 ft wKI x 45 ft long complete with rolling tailboard type hitches at each end and with pad-eyes for securing the strong-backs to the drill floor sections and the jacking box pedestals.

Each of the intermediated box sections, Upper, Center Intermediate and Lower Intermediate are 8 ft tall x 10 ft wKI x 45 ft long.

The two (2) Base Box sections are 6 ft tall x 10 ft wKI x 45 ft long and are equipped complete with a Diesel powered hydraulic power unit incorporating a valve manifold system and eight (8) hydraulic cylinders to facilitate structure extension and retraction. The lower box skids are provKId with 1/2” plating (Mud bottom) and are complete with drains.

Three (3) sets of stairs two (2) from 36 ft working floor to ground and one (1) to the mud system complete with handrails are standard. One (1) set of Hydraulic Make-up and Break-out catheads are integrated into the floor section and one (1) Mousehole and Range 2 scabbard is included. One (1) set of 50T BOP trolley beams are integrated into the drill floor boxes and are complete with a hydraulic hoist and gear driven trolley system.
